Dear all,

Over the past couple of weeks we have had numerous reports from residents in the area of persons purporting to be workmen requesting entry to peoples buildings and homes to carry out works.

There have been recent burglaries in Maida Vale in empty apartments, but also incidents of persons attempting to gain access to buildings during daytime hours, and even those with residents present in the apartment at the time. If anyone asks to enter your home:

Challenge check who they are, ask for ID, ask whom they are working for, and who has sent them to carry out the work

Check – speak to your neighbours and WBM to check with us first if the person is genuine and is carrying out legitimate work. Do this before allowing them entry to your property or building.

If in doubt, don’t let the person in and call the police straight away on 999 to report the activity. Take down a description of the appearance of the persons and a note of the time that they called and any vehicle they are with.

Please remain vigilant, look out for your vulnerable neighbours and keep an eye out for anyone out of place in the vicinity of your home. Homes can often be targeted when they are left unattended or with works being carried out, but this is not always the case and the most recent incident has been one of alleged work men trying to deceive their way past the resident who was present.
