I know that there are several lifts and I'm not sure how to describe each one - other than I was visiting flat 21. <o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'>On my descent in the lift it jarred to a stop between floor 2 and floor 1. I pressed the emergency alarm button in the lift, which is supposed to connect occupants with OTIS (the company that looks after the lifts), at which point it seemed to call the company but to no answer (this was in the early evening so not at a ridiculous hour!). Unfortunately there is no mobile phone service in the lift, which meant I couldn't call the porter, and after one attempt at calling OTIS all of the buttons in the lift ceased to function, meaning I couldn't try calling them again. As you can imagine, this left me in a very difficult situation, with no service to call the porter and no option to call OTIS. <o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'>I was able to prise open the inner door of the lift in order to get phone signal and call the porter. He was then aware of the situation and made arrangements to call the company, but mentioned this could take up to 45 minutes. The outer door of the lifts were extremely difficult to open due to locking mechanisms at the very top of each door. Luckily I was able to open the mechanism for the doors to level 1 and manoeuvre a way out. <o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif'>I think it is extremely lucky that I was in the lift and not someone who was unable to prise open two sets of heavy doors, use a mobile phone, as well as squeeze out. The system in place for lift faults clearly failed dramatically, and at no point did I feel confident that there was a safe and clear protocol in place.
