We have exciting news to share: Promethease and SNPedia have been acquired by
MyHeritage, the leading global platform for exploring family history and gaining valuable health
insights. You can read more about the acquisition on the MyHeritage blog ( https://blog.myheritage.com/2019/09/myheritage-acquires-promethease-and-snpedia/ ).
MyHeritage has announced that SNPedia will remain a free resource for non-commercial use,
and in addition, Promethease will be made into a free service through the end of the year (and
return to be paid thereafter). Now is a good time to upload DNA data -- yours and that of any
family or friends whose DNA kits you manage -- to Promethease to obtain up-to-date health
information for free.
On December 15, 2019, DNA files that were uploaded to Promethease previously (by non-
European users) will be copied to the MyHeritage website to provide ethnicity estimates and
DNA matches for free. According to our records, you do not have any DNA data stored on
Promethease; therefore, none of your data will be copied and no further action is required.
Note that if you upload new DNA data to Promethease (especially between now and the end of
the year, when it's free), you can choose whether or not to store your DNA data on
Promethease and MyHeritage.
As Greg noted in the announcement about the acquisition, "We are pleased with the acquisition
by MyHeritage. We expect this to extend SNPedia's contribution to even more consumers and
thereby improve millions of lives through MyHeritage's popular DNA testing platform."
Best wishes,
Greg Lennon and Mike Cariaso (Founders of Promethease and SNPedia),
and the MyHeritage Team
